Cancer Survivor Renewal Program

Cancer treatment can leave lasting changes to the skin, scars, and underlying tissue, even after the medical journey has ended. At Chrysalis Skin & Scar in Gilbert, AZ, our Cancer Survivor Renewal Program provides compassionate, clinically guided care to help survivors address these changes and regain confidence in their skin.

Through specialized scar revision, tissue support, pigment correction, and paramedical care, our team helps cancer survivors explore treatment options based on their individual healing needs.

Support Beyond Survival

Support for the Changes Cancer Treatment Can Leave Behind

Surgery, radiation, and other cancer treatments can affect the skin's texture, pigmentation, elasticity, and underlying tissue. Some changes may be visible, while others involve scar tightness or irregular tissue.

Our program evaluates concerns such as:

  • Mastectomy and reconstruction scars

  • Surgical and port scars

  • Radiation related skin changes

  • Scar discoloration

  • Tissue irregularities

Treatment recommendations depend on the condition of the skin, medical history, and appropriate clearance from the treating medical team.

What Is Included in the Cancer Survivor Renewal Program?

The Cancer Survivor Renewal Program provides eligible survivors with access to an initial assessment and clear guidance about available treatment options.

Every documented cancer survivor referred to Chrysalis receives:

  • Complimentary initial assessment: An opportunity to discuss concerns and explore potential treatment options without any obligation.

  • Individualized treatment recommendations: A clinical evaluation of scar tissue, pigmentation, and skin concerns.

  • 10% treatment reduction: A transparent reduction for survivors who choose to proceed with treatment.

  • Coordinated care: Communication with the referring oncologist or surgeon when the patient provides consent.

The goal is to help each survivor understand their options and make informed decisions about their next steps.

A Program Inspired by Personal Experience

For Chrysalis Skin & Scar cofounder Mischelle Johnson, PA-C, MMS, the challenges of cancer survivorship are deeply personal.

As a breast cancer survivor, Mischelle experienced the physical effects of mastectomy, multiple reconstruction procedures, lymphedema, and significant scarring. Her journey highlighted an often-overlooked part of cancer recovery: the lasting changes that remain after lifesaving treatment.

Together with her sister and cofounder, Teresa Gaither, MSNE, FNP-C, Mischelle helped build Chrysalis around a deeper understanding of wound healing, scar management, and long-term tissue health.

The Cancer Survivor Renewal Program reflects their commitment to ensuring that survivors have access to knowledgeable, compassionate care beyond their initial cancer treatment.

Advanced Scar Revision and Paramedical Care

Chrysalis combines wound healing expertise with advanced technologies to address complex skin and scar concerns. Depending on individual needs, treatment options may include:

  • Laser scar revision and collagen remodeling to improve scar texture and tissue quality.

  • Pigment correction to address discoloration and uneven skin tone.

  • Paramedical camouflage to address visible changes following breast cancer treatment.

Our clinical team evaluates each patient's medical history and skin condition to determine appropriate care, coordinating with their medical team when necessary.
